A)Purpose- the purpose of my TV series power is to entertain the audience and they do these with scenes that create a lot of tension and that have a lot of action in them but I guess it could also be there to inform people about the drug dealing business and how dangerous it is and they get across those points by showing things like murders and people being held hostage.
B)Genre- the genre of my TV series is crime-drama/thriller. The audience can easily see that the show is a crime show due to one of the opening scenes and in that scene the main character who is a big drug dealer tries to torture someone for information but fails so he ends up shooting the guy. The audience can also see that is a drama TV show as well due to a scene in the latest season where the main character's daughter is shot because her brother got into a lot of trouble by taking part in a robbery and it shows that doing things like that in life can get the people close to you killed and that goes back to the message they are trying to convey through the TV show. However throughout the series there are parts where 2 of the characters get very intimate with each other.
The genre crime drama allows the audience to get into debates about the crime on the show and one of the main things on the show is the engaging narrative and things like shadows and fast cuts engage the audience and that is all to do with the thriller genre side of the show. A convention that follows most crime drama shows is that the main character is a male and Power follows that conventions as the main lead is a male named Ghost, another convention in crime drama is betrayal and there is a lot of different kinds of betrayal in this show as there is love betrayal as well as a lot others which can end a lot of death.
C)Form- the main way that you can see this TV show is on an electronic device like a smartphone, TV or Laptop and people can watch the show on TV networks like Starz and PPV's like Netflix and they can all be watched on the electronic devices listed above. However you can get box sets of the TV show and they will usually have a disc for every season and you can then watch it on a TV, a computer and even a video game console as some allow you to watch films on them. The narrative structure of my TV show is mainly Serial and that is when a storyline lasts the whole series and most of the episodes end on cliffhangers which makes the viewer want to keep watching but there are some episodic narratives in the show but not as many incidental narratives. The length of each episode varies from 48-61 minutes depending whereabouts in the season the episode is as the first and last episodes are usually the longest.
D)Style- Most of the things that are in this TV show like the buildings, the cars and the clothing are mostly dark except for a few times where there are bright colours. They choose not to have many bright colours within the show because there is not much happiness as there happens to be a lot of deaths and torture within the show. Most locations in this show are dull coloured and rundown except for the main characters' penthouse and his night club.
E)Content- In power there are two people called James St Patrick and Tommy Eagen who have been best friends since they were young and they run a drug business and St Patrick is known as Ghost by other drug dealers. Also another main storyline throughout the first and second season is when a friend of James turns up at his night club and her name is Angela Valdes and they start meeting up and James eventually starts having an affair with her but his wife Tasha St Patrick starts to cheat on James with his chauffeur without knowing about her husbands affair.
Other than that it is mainly about them running a drug business but in the last two seasons it shows the consequences of what happened in the first two seasons and that is the main family falling apart, the main character getting arrested for something he didn't do and also the death of the main character's daughter.
F)Meaning-
This still image shows one of the opening scenes in the first episode and it is of James St Patrick also known as Ghost trying to get information out of someone who has double crossed him and they have done this to show the audience that Ghost is ruthless and does not like people who betray him as you can see bruises on the guy's face that is pushed up against the wall. This is also to try and tell the audience to try and not get into this type of business as you can get seriously hurt or sometimes even killed. Also you can see Ghost is wearing clothes that he will not get worried about getting bloody. The camera angle is a mid shot to the side of the characters which allows you to see both characters clearly but it does not show the guys face on the left as much. The characters are only in the right side of the shot as you can see they have levelled off where the characters can go and that gives the effect that they are trapped but for this shot you associate with the guy on the left being trapped because he can't get away from Ghost who is the character on the right. Ghost is looking into the persons eyes on the left whilst the guy on the left is trying to avoid eye contact which shows that he is afraid and weak. Also you can tell that ghost in strong and in control because of two reasons, one of them is that you can see that ghost's muscles are big and by the posture of each character you can tell ghost is in control.
This is a still image from the most recent season where the main character James St Patrick has been arrested for the murder of a FBI agent which he did not commit. They did this to show the audience the consequences of running something like a drug business because even though he did not commit the murder people believe he did because of his reputation. The camera angle is a mid shot from in front of the character and it shows the main character in the middle without everyone surrounding him to show that he is dangerous. You can also tell that James St Patrick is a main character because he is in the middle of the shot. He is wearing a suit so it shows that he is a business man and you don't expect to see people in prison who wear suits but this guy is. The people on his left and right are are both looking at him like he is dangerous.
